MTN Nigeria has a new promotional offer that allows you to get 5GB data for just ₦600. It is a solid deal in terms of volume of data for the price. The XtraSpecial data plan that I subscribe to gives me 5GB data for ₦1500, or 15GB for ₦3500.
What MTN is doing with this, actually, is doubling the 2.5GB that you should normally get for ₦600. So, in a sense, it is akin to a double data plan.

MTN 5GB data for 600 naira: The fine print
Of course, there is a catch. Awoof dey run bele. There is always a catch with these mouthwatering offers.
First, this offer is available only via the MTN NG mobile app. You will not be able to get it on the MTN website. You have to install the app. You can download it for your Android phone from Google Play Store by clicking here.
Secondly, this offer is available only on Tuesdays. If you do not subscribe on Tuesday in a certain week, you have to wait till the following week’s Tuesday.
The third catch is that this volume of data is available for the price only on the first purchase. I don’t know what subsequent purchases will amount to, as MTN did not specify.
The last catch is that the data is valid only for two (2) days. Yup. You have to exhaust the 5GB data in 2 days (48 hours). This is where my bubble was deflated. I do not have the need to consume 5GB of mobile data within 2 days, as I have WiFi for work and play. I only need mobile data when I have to go out.
How to subscribe
To get the special 5GB data for 600 naira offer, launch your MTN NG app, tap on “Offers”.
Under “Exclusive App Deals”, tap on “Enjoy 5GB data every Tuesday for ₦600”.
You will be presented with a pop-up box and a request to scratch tp reveal. Scratch on that box and you will see your offer displayed.
Tap the “Buy Now” button to proceed with the subscription. You have the option to pay with bank, or with your airtime, if you have enough airtime to cover the purchase. If you choose the bank payment option, you will be able to pay using MOMO, bank transfer, debit card, USSD, “Bank Account”, or NQR (QR code).
Complete your payment and you will get the 5GB data for 600 naira bundle activated on your line. That’s it. Enjoy your awoof data.
