This is the TECNO Camon 17 Pro. It is the top model in the Camon 17 series of devices launched in 2021 and costs ₦125,000. What you get for that price is a 6.8-inch 90Hz display, Helio G95 chipset, 64 MP rear camera, and a 5,000mAh battery.

This mid-range smartphone includes Android 11 with TECNO’s custom skin, HiOS, 8 GB of RAM, a generous 256 GB of storage, 4G connectivity, a 3.5 mm headphone port, and 25W fast charging. We got our hands on one for review.

In the box are the usual suspects – the phone itself, a flexible silicon case, a 15W charging brick, a USB cable, a 3.5 mm audio earphones, and a 13-month warranty card. The box is as complete as can be.

The Camon 17 Pro is a beautiful device – and the Ice Silver unit we got to review is a sweet colour.

The Camon 17 Pro has a big display. Resolution is 1080 x 2460 pixels, which is very decent. In addition, it offers 990Hz refresh rate for a more fluid, smoother viewing. It isn’t AMOLED. What we have here is an IPS LCD panel, and it is bright and sharp.

The 90Hz refresh screen is a headliner, but the 5,000mAh battery is a sold addition as well. We do not have numbers for battery performance yet, but the built-in capacity is encouraging and should translate to long battery life. You will have to see the full review for hard conclusions on that.

Everything is kept running nicely by the MediaTek Helio G95 chipset. In the short time we had it to play with, performance was good, and we didn’t encounter any sluggish behaviour. The 8 GB of RAM that is paired up with it helps with launching and running apps smoothly too.

TECNO Camon 17 pro hands-on review rear camera

TECNO’s Camon phones are known for a focus on selfie photography, and the Camon 17 Pro brings a 48-megapixel front camera to the fight. How does it perform? The few quick shots we took were good.

At the back is a triple camera configuration featuring a 64 MP wide angle lens, a 5MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 2MP depth camera. There is an LED light for night scenes.
