The TECNO Spark2 is a 2018 smartphone and is the upgrade to the original TECNO Spark, though those familiar with the devices will argue that there isn’t much of an upgrade. TECNO Spark 2, aka TECNO KA7, gets a bigger display – now 6 inches, and a bigger battery, but it retains the 1 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage of its predecessor. In addition, it has Face unlock.
Where there is an upgrade – and hopefully leading to better performance – is the software. The TECNO KA7 Spark 2 runs Android 8 Oreo Go Edition. If you are not already familiar with the terminology, “Go Edition” means the software is optimised for budget smartphones with low resources.
Does that mean the phone runs pure Android OS and will get software updates from Google? No; it does not run pure Android OS, which is the best kind of Android for low-end smartphones. There is a layer of HiOS on it. As for software updates, we do not have an official confirmation of that.
For photography, the specs sheet reveals a 13-megapixel main camera with LED flash and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies. The selfie camera has a quad-LED flash to assist in low-light situations.
Note that there is a TECNO Spark 2 GB RAM variant that offers better multi-tasking and performance. That is the one to buy, if you can shell out the extra bucks.
Whichever of the two variants you go for, you are stuck with 2G and 3G network support for both voice calls and data. This is not a 4G LTE smartphone. But like all TECNO mobile phones, the KA7 is a dual-SIM device. Both SIM slots support 3G service.
With a 3500 mAh battery, users should get reasonable battery life, considering that 4G is not available. Charging is at regular speeds, as quick charging is not available for the phone either.
