Released just three months apart, TECNO Camon 18 Premier and Phantom X are very much alike in more ways than not. Phantom X arrived first in July 2021 and is positioned as a premium smartphone. The Camon 18 was announced in October and takes its place as a proper mid-range smartphone. These are the top 2 TECNO smartphones of the year.

Yet, while they look different on the outside, if you peep beneath their skins, what you find out is that they have very few differences and are more birds of the same feather, the cost difference notwithstanding.

So, what are the similarities and differences between TECNO Camon 18 Premier and Phantom X? We shall allow our trusty comparison table show us.

Where TECNO Camon 18 Premier is better

Firstly, it runs a newer version of TECNO’s user interface, HiOS v8. Phantom X runs v7.6. In addition, the screen has 120Hz refresh rate, as against the Phantom X’s 90Hz.

On to the camera, the Camon 18 Premier’s rear camera has a periscope telephoto lens and a gimbal stabilizer, both of which the Phantom X lacks. The benefits of these features is that you can shoot up to 5x optical zoom on the Camon and also record smoother, more stable videos.

Where the Phantom X is better

Phantom X has Gorilla Glass 5 protection on its screen, giving it better chances of surviving a drop. The entire body of the Phantom X also has a more premium feel. It is also marginally thicker and narrower than the Camon.

Next, it has a dual selfie camera. The second lens is an ultrawide lens, so you can take selfies that accommodate more people in it. Great for group shots.

Other differences between TECNO Camon 18 Premier and Phantom X include the extra 50mAh capacity in the Camon’s battery. And while the processor of the Camon is newer, it is marginally less powerful than the one in the Phantom. These differences are so insignificant that we won’t bother with them. They make no big different in the balance of things.

Also, the main cameras are different. Phantom X has a 50MP lens, and it is a solid piece of work. While the Camon 18 Premier’s main lens has a higher 64 MP lens, that does not necessarily mean it is better. Megapixel counts are not the holy grail of cameras. In reality, only a photo shoot can determine which of the two main cameras is better.

Lastly, we come to price. Phantom X has a price tag of $530 (₦250,000), while the Camon 18 Premier goes for $450 (₦182,000). The question of which to buy now falls on you. There is no straight answer to the question of which of these two is a better phone. One clearly has a more premium build, while the other has a more versatile rear camera.

If you have to choose between TECNO Camon 18 Premier and Phantom X, which will be your choice?
