In March 2022, mobile security and privacy solutions company, Kryptowire, published an article to announce that they have identified a critical security and privacy vulnerability affecting mobile devices using Spreadtrum UNISOC SC9863A. According to the report, there have been no breaches yet, but the vulnerability makes it possible for “malicious actors to take control over user data and device functionality”[1]
This means that all users of smartphones and tablets with SC9863A can potentially be hit. Unisoc and the manufacturers of those devices are expected to work together to fix the vulnerability via a software update.
