I am a huge lover of software updates. This means I am usually waiting with excitement for one improvement or the other that is added through these updates. In the case of iOS 16.5, there is nothing that I am looking forward to that is on the changeling of the software that powers iPhones.

36 hours ago, I dived into the settings of my iPhone SE 2022 to see if iOS 16.5 was available to me. It was. For the ipteenth time, I scrutinized the changelog to see if there was something really worth upgrading for. You see, I had checked on multiple times in the past and found nothing. And even now that the update was finally rolling out, I still couldn’t find a good reason to download and install it.

IOS 16.5 update

What is in iOS 16.5?

Apple’s official changelog says the iOS 16.5 update includes the following “enhancements and bug fixes”:

  • A new Pride Celebration wallpaper for the Lock Screen to honour the LGBTQ+ community and culture
  • Sport tab in Apple News gives easy access to stories, scores, rankings and more, for the teams and leagues you follow
  • My Sports score and fixture cards in Apple News take you directly to match pages where you can find additional details about specific matches
  • Fixes an issue where Spotlight may become unresponsive
  • Addresses an issue where Podcasts in CarPlay may not load content
  • Fixes an issue where Screen Time settings may reset or not sync across all devices

There is nothing on this list that addresses a problem or need that I have. I imagine that there are perhaps millions of other iPhone users who would be happy to see some of the above features, though. So, if this update resonates with you in some way, download and install it. The file is 683 MB in size, so you might want to use wi-fi or an unlimited data plan to download it.

Personally, I am going to keep my iPhone SE 2022 on iOS 16.4 till another update that gives me a reason to install it comes along.
