Honor View 20 – also to be known as the Honor V20 in China – is the world’s first 48-megapixel phone. It is the first smartphone to offer a 48 megapixel camera, taking it a notch ahead of Nokia’s 808 PureView and Lumia 1020 from years ago. Both of those devices had a 41-megapixel camera on them.

If there is any smartphone manufacturer with the expertise to pull off outstanding photography that beats what Nokia has with the 808 and 1020, it is Huawei. The company recently set the camera phone space ablaze with the camera on the Huawei P20 Pro.

What is it about a 48 megapixel camera?

We all know it isn’t about the megapixels but what you do with them, so what is it to get excited about a 48 megapixel camera?

On its own, probably nothing special other than a large sensor. But if done the way Nokia did with the 808 PureView and Lumia 1020, it can produce not just great details but also superb effects like Bokeh.

I keep looking back the Nokia’s 41-megapixel camera with nostalgia. For one, they pulled Bokeh off so effortlessly, not to mention the level of details they produced in their photos.

We don’t have long to wait to see how well Huawei has worked out the technology in the Honor View 20 / Honor V20.
