The entry of more manufacturers into the smartphone business has made it possible to have more affordable devices than in times past. Now, the market is filled with different manufacturers who cater to different spheres of the market, from entry-level to high-end.
Today, we would be taking a really close look at two budget-friendly entry level devices, one a replacement for the other, what they have to offer you, what features and specs may entice you, and everything in between. This head-to-head is going down between the TECNO POP 5 and TECNO POP 4!

TECNO Pop 5 vs Pop 4: Where The Pop 4 Has The Advantage
On paper, the POP 4 offers a higher megapixel camera at the back. We know that megapixel count isn’t all there is to the quality of a camera, so the jury is out on whether this translates to a better photography experience. A proper shoot out between the two models will settle that score.
It has a bigger capacity battery than its replacement (5,000 mAh against 4000 mAh), while also edging out the Pop 5 in terms of memory space and RAM. It has twice the RAM, twice the internal storage, and twice the memory card capacity. These translate to significant differences in terms of performance (launching and switching apps) in daily usage.
TECNO Pop 5 vs Pop 4: Where The Pop 5 Has The Advantage
The Pop 5 brings a higher resolution display to the table. This translates to a sharper and clearer viewing experience with images, videos, and even text. In addition to that, it has a more recent and more capable processor, the Helio A22. This means the Pop 5 is the more powerful of the two devices.
Lastly, the Pop 5 brings a more up-to-date design and appearance to the game. It certainly looks better.
TECNO Pop 5 vs Pop 4: Who Wins This Duel?
TECNO Pop 5 is here to replace the Pop 4 and looks better, but it is the lower specc’d device in a number of ways. It offers less RAM, less storage, and a smaller battery. But it offers a better display and looks more fashionable.
Thankfully, this reflects in the prices: the Pop 4 from last year still costs more than the Pop 5. So, fair game; right? I think so. Or perhaps not so fair. Some people will not like the compromises. As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t begrudge anyone who says the Pop 5 does not make sense as an upgrade.
My recommendation is that, if you have the Pop 4, there is no point upgrading to the Pop 5. The latter does not offer anything compelling enough to inspire an upgrade. Both devices are 3G smartphones and both run Android 10 (Go Edition). Both offer old school charging speeds, and both have a rear-mounted fingerprint reader.
Which one is better in terms of battery, storage, and camera?
The older Pop 4 is the clear winner in terms of storage and battery. Without a direct shootout between the Pop 4 and Pop 5, it is difficult to tell which camera is better.
I cannot say that one device is clearly the better. There are just too many balls to juggle in deciding which to buy, if you are shopping for a new cheap Android phone. If appearances matter to you, though, the Pop 5 pops better. For performance, I will go with more RAM and more storage, meaning the Pop 4.
