Yesterday the 8th of January 2021, I received a text message saying that my 9mobile NIN registration was successful. This makes them the first mobile operator to complete and confirm that my NIN has been successfully linked to my number.
With my 9mobile line successfully linked to NIN, I have 12 more lines to go. Don’t yell. Here’s the count of SIM cards I own: two MTN, one Airtel, three Glo, one Smile, three Ntel, and one Spectranet. I am Mister Mobility, afterall. LOL.
Why is the successful linkage confirmation from 9mobile good news? This confirms that there are no issues with my NIN, a valid concern, considering how messed up handling of personal data and processes are in Nigeria. It is like having your first child.
I had submitted my NIN on the 19th of December 2020, so the confirmation of successful registration arrived three weeks after. All I have to do now is sit back and wait for confirmations from the other networks as well.
The Federal Government had directed that all SIM cards must be linked to a National Identification Number (NIN). All SIMs not so linked were to be blocked pn the 30th of Decem,ber 2020, but the government gave an extension of the deadline till January 19, 2021 (for individuals who already had NIN), and February 9 (for individuals who didn’t already have a NIN).
Just in case you are yet to submit your NIN for linking with your 9mobile line, I am including the process below for your convenience.
How to carry out your 9mobile NIN Registration
There are two ways to submit your NIN to 9mobile: one via web browser, and the other, via USSD. I detail both below.
9mobile NIN Registration via Web Browser
To verify your NIN, dial *346# on the mobile number you gave when registering for it (or when processing your BVN). If you have a NIN, your phone will display it on your screen. Copy it down and store it away safely.
Now, browse to thie 9mobile NIN registration page HERE, and complete the process, during which you will be required to submit your NIN.
9mobile NIN registration via USSD code
To submit your NIN to 9mobile via USSD code, simply dial *200*8# and complete the process.
If You Do Not Have A NIN Yet
If you dial *346# and the system says that more information is required or any other message apart from displaying your National identification Number, you may not have a NIN and so need to sort things out with the National Identity Management Commission.

How to Register NIN on other mobile networks

PS: While typing this article, it dawned on me that I was yet to carry out my Spectranet NIN registration. Aaargh! I havent used the line in over a year though, so it might even be dormant by now. I will go see if it is still active, and if so rectify that ommission.
January 14, 2021 Update: Smile Communications confirmed that NIN has been succesfully linked to my Smile account. Yay! Who is next?
