Are you new to Android and looking for applications (apps) to install on your TECNO, Samsung, Sony, Huawei, Xiaomi or Infinix smartphone? Or perhaps you’re not exactly new but would still love to have a list of apps that will serve you excellently. Here are ten (10) for you to start with:

  1. WhatsApp

WhatsApp has become so universal that if you are not using it, you are missing out. It is the new SMS. But it is SMS on fleek. You can set up Groups e.g. for your family, inner clique, or even to provide tutorials to a class or to run an online seminar. Awesome!
  2. Instagram

Want to get in on the new narcissism and show off your selfies and photos of the things that matter to you? Instagram is what the doctor ordered.
  3. Flash Share (Xendar)

If you share files a lot across different devices, Flash Share does it fastest. Bluetooth doesn’t even come close. Flash Share also lets you share your mobile internet access with other users in your group, so you can forget about WiFi hotspot too.
  4. Evernote

Evernote is an awesome work tool that lets you create and edit text notes, snap and save photos, attach documents for easy access across devices and to share with others. You can set up reminders too. One of the best features of Evernote for me is the ability to save a webpage I am reading for later reference. And now, there’s a Work Chat feature that improves your team collaboration. You can stay logged into your account on multiple devices too.
  5. BOOM Player

This music player gives you access to a huge library of music from Nigerian artistes. Want to stream or download? Your choice. The app also lets you access the lyrics to playing songs, as well as edit the meta details of each music file. Priceless. But Boom Player does more than just music. It supports video streaming/download as well. With TECNO Own The Stage karaoke show going on right now, those who miss it on DSTV don’t have to miss out totally. Watch it for free on BOOM player.
  6. Pocket Casts

This is a versatile podcast player. You can set it to auto-download podcasts while you sleep, you can speed up playback, and you can share your lists, among other cool features.
  7. Google Keep

If you do not like the business-like nature of Evernote, you should consider Keep. In is not as comprehensive, but the interface is breezier and certainly more colourful. With Keep, you can record voice notes, draw up your shopping list, write notes, and even add photos. You can set up location-based reminders so you get beeped when you are about driving through or past your favourite store or market.
  8. Buffer
    Screenshot_Buffer
Buffer app allows you to schedule your tweets and Facebook updates for publishing at specified times later. It is great for people who work with social media. The app is free, but requires some payment for usage at some point.
  9. Sunrise Calendar app
    Screenshot_Sunrise calendar
has been described by some as the first great calendar app for Android. It syncs with Google Calendar, Exchange, iCloud, Facebook, Evernote, Foursquare, TripIt, Todoist, Trello and more to make sure you’re always up to date with all the events happening in your life. If you want a very comprehensive calendar app for all your calendar/reminder services, this is it.
  10. Endomondo

Are you team fitfam? Endomondo is a good app to help with your goal of keeping trim and fit.

You would have noticed that I left out Twitter and Facebook. That is deliberate, as they usually come pre-installed on most Android smartphones. Have you discovered or installed any new apps recently? Do share five (5) of them with us. Perhaps you would also love to share your five (5) most used apps.
