August 2020 is looking set to be an exciting month of smartphone launches. And that is despite how eventful July was. Some of the top brands in the industry will be announcung highly anticipated devices. Let’s have a look at some of the smartphones that are expected to launch in August 2020.
There is no doubt that perhaps the most visible phone being expected to launch in August 2020 is Google’s Pixel 4a. It has been the subject of endless rumours and counter-rumours and leaks for months. There was even one rumour that it had been cancelled. But now, this highly anticipated device is right around the corner. We expect the announcement on August 3.
Xiaomi has been very active this year with a number of smartphone announcements. Coming up on the 4th of August is the official announcement of the Redmi 9 Prime is heading to the market too. The Chinese manufacturer says that you can expect “best-in-class features, one among them being a display, that no other phone offers in the price band.” [1] Sounds interesting, no?
The Redmi 9 Prime is said to be a rebranded Redmi 9. So why the “Prime” tag? That is the same question I am asking. Anyway, you can expect to see a 6.53-inch display and a Helio G80 chipset, as well as a 5020mAh battery coupled with 18W fast chargiing.
Xiaomi is not done though. After the Redmi 9 Prime, we shall also see the Redmi K30 Ultra. It is an updated version of the Redmi K30 Pro, launched earlier, and will likely feature a Dimensity 1000 chipset, a 64MP Sony IMX686 camera sensor, and a pop-up selfie camera. When can you expect the announcement of this device? August 14.
Another Xiaomi smartphone that is being expected to launch in August 2020 is Xiaomi Mi10 Pro+, an addition to the Mi 10 family of smartphones that already includes the Mi 10 5G, Mi 10 Pro 5G, Mi 10 Lite 5G, Mi 10 Youth 5G, and Mi 10 Lite Zoom. As if that line-up wasn’t crazy enough, the Mi 10 Pro+ is being expected to join the family officially in August.
It will feature a Snapdragon 865 chipset, 120Hz refresh rate screen, a 108MP camera, 4,500 mAh battery, 120W charging, and a unique feature called Game Mode. Game Mode allows the user to adjust GPU parameters and modes, including GPU frequency. [2]
HMD Global, the business behind the new Nokia smartphones, has been fairly quiet in 2020 as other brands announced phone after phone. That relative silence comes to an end this August. We are expecting a handful of unnamed enytry-level and mid-range Nokia mobile phones to launch in August 2020. Perhaps the Nokia C3 will be one of them, but August 4 is the date to keep.
Come August 3, Vivo s7 will go official. We already have some of the key specs, and they include a slim profile, a Snapdragon 765G chipset, a dual selfie camera with a 44MP primary sensor, and a 64MP triple camera at the back.
Motorola Moto G9 Plus packs a 4700mAh battery and 30W quick charging. On the inside are also 128GB storage memory and 4GB of RAM. Not much else is known of this upcoming Moto phone. But it is expected to be announced this August.
If the leaks are anything to go by, come August 3, Realme V5 will go official at the price of $245. That price tag is for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant, which will also be 5G compliant. It packs a 5000mAh battery.
Samsung is not left out from among manufacturers with phones expected to launch in August Galaxy. The company’s Unpacked event is happening this month and will feature an official announcement of the Galaxy Note20 series. These will include the Note20, Note 20 Ultra, and Note 20 5G.
Another Samsung device to expect at the Unpacked event on August 5, 2020 is the Galaxy Z Fold 2, a foldable smartphone.
These are the hottest smartphones that we are expecting to launch in August 2020. Of course, there will be other random phone launches besides those listed in this article. We might see a handful of TECNO phones, Infinix phones, and Huawei phones as well, so keep your eyes peeled for the excitement all through August. It promises to be fun.
