OPPO A50 is one of the most elusive smartphones ever, and here is why

Withe the release of OPPO A53 in April, and OPPO A52 hitting the market in April, you would expect that OPPO A50 would have been released in February or January of the same year; right? Wrong.

That OPPO phone model was not launched or released.  As a matter of fact, it has never been launched at all. OPPO Mobile might decide to rectify that situation later. In the meantime, if you are interested in it, the phones you want to consider are the following OPPO models: A52, A53, and A5. Let me break down their features and prices for you below.

OPPO A50 Alternatives

The A5 2020, A52, and A53 are the closest you will get to the OPPO A50. The interesting thing is that they are similar in a number of ways. As you shall see, OPPO mostly swapped out different features and included certain enhancements here and there across the three. Let’s have a look.

OPPO A5 2020

Despite its model name, OPPO A5 2020 was not announced in 2020. It was announced in September 2019 and released in October 2019. But it is targeted at the year 2020.

The features include a 6.5 inches display with Gorilla Glass 3, ColorOS 6.1 based on Android 9 Pie, 3/4 GB RAM options, 64/128 GB storage memory options, a quad rear camera (12 MP + 8 MP + 2 MP + 2 MP), an 8 MP selfie camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset, 5000 mAh battery with standard charging, stereo speakers, and a rear-mounted fingerprint reader.

The A5 2020 is available from $230 and specifically, ₹12,490 in India.

OPPO A52

OPPO A52 2020

The A52 arrived in April 2020 with a 6.5-inch display. It has a high density resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels (the other two have 720 x 1640 pixels). As such, if you want the sharpest display of the three, OPPO A52 is it.

This OPPO A50 alternative runs ColorOS 7.1 based on Android 10, has 3/4 GB RAM options and 64/128 GB storage, a similar rear quad camera setup as the A5 2020 (12 MP + 8 MP + 2 MP + 2 MP), an 8 MP selfie camera, a Snapdragon 665 chipset, a 5000 mAh battery  plus 18W fast charging.

Like the others, it has stereo speakers; but unlike them, its fingerprint scanner is located on the power button on the side, not at the back of the phone.

The A52 is avalable from €175 in the European Union, and from £185 in the UK, on Amazon and other onlne stores.

OPPO A53

OPPO A53 2020

Last but not the least, we have the A53 with a 6.5-inch display with a basic 720 x 1600 pixel resolution, but – surprise – with a 90 Hz refresh rate. There is Gorilla Glass 3 too.

It runs ColorOS 7.2 based on Android 10. RAM options are 4/6/8 GB RAM and the options for storage memory are 64 GB and 128 GB. It has a triple rear camera, a departure from what we see on the other two. This time, we have a 13 MP + 2 MP + 2 MP combination. The selfie camera has a 16 MP lems.

Powering the A53 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 chipset, which is a step down from the snapdragon 665 of the other two devices. The 5000 mAh battery is coupled with 18W fast charging, and we have stereo speakers and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner in the mix.

The A53 will set you back by ₹ 12,989. It is sold as the OPPO A32 in China. Don’t ask me why. I have no idea.

OPPO A50 is a Unicorn:

As you have seen, the three OPPO A50 alternatives are the result of the manufacturer joggling features about to create a range of smartphones with different price points. They all share the same screen size (6.5 inches), stereo speakers, and battery capacity (5000 mAh). Two of them share the same processor and rear camera setup.

You won’t find OPPO A50 anywhere to buy because it doesn’t exist (yet?). The question now is, Which one of these three similar phones are you going with?
