How much is Showmax Subscription in Nigeria? Watch Premier League

If you are looking for information about Showmax subscription in Nigeria, I’ve got great news for you. Two days ago, I got a prompt on the dedicated device I use for streaming video. It was a notice to update the Showmax app. Instead, I launched the old Showmax app on the device and hit a brick wall: another prompt to download the new Showmax app, without any means of bypassing it. I had no choice. Off I went to download it.

I ended up with two Shapmax apps on my device – the old and the new. But the old was now as good as a dud. I could only login to the new app, and it turned out to be a totally redesigned package with mouth watering offers that includes the streaming Premier League.

The new Showmax has a new logo, but it is more than a redesign job. MultiChoice overhauled the entire service to make it work better and more attractive to existing and prospective users.

The New Showmax App User Experience Review

My existing account details on the old app worked fine for logging into the new. So, existing subscribers have nothing to worry about: Showmax has migrated you to the new app.

While I like the redesign of the app, the user experience still has some chinks to be ironed out. For example, after logging into the new Showmax app, I was told to visit a webpage on the official website to access my account, pick a plan, and subscribe. Duh. Why exactly was that not built into the new app?

Why do I have to leave the app and open a web browser to subscribe? Plus, there wasn’t even an active link to click on in the app. I had to memorise the URL preview.showmax.com – and then go type it into my web browser. That’s terrible user experience, guys. Fix it. If you spent all that money redesigning your app, the least you can do is make the on boarding process smooth and friendly for your users.

The old Showmax logo is not particularly catchy or captivating and so I welcome the idea of a new one. But am I the only one who thinks the new Showmax logo looks a bit too much like the symbol used on warning signs for radioactivity?

Anyway, MultiChoice has made the right call in doubling down on Showmax. In 2024, the company lost tons of DStv premium subscribers to streaming platforms like Netflix and Prime Video. Revamping Showmax was the right call, and they have done it. Now, they need to fix the issues I highlighted here, while marketing the heck out of it, like their lives depend on it. Because it does.

How to watch Showmax outside of Nigeria

A number of individuals based in the US, Canada, the UK, and elsewhere, have asked me if Showmax is now available to anyone irrespective of location. Based on the information that I have, it isn’t. It is still restricted by location, due to copyright licensing restrictions. However, you can still access Showmax from any of these locations by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Here are the steps:

  1. Register for a reliable VPN. Here are a few recommended ones.
  2. Download and install the VPN app on your device.
  3. Launch the VPN app and connect to a server located in Nigeria, South Africa. or any of the countries listed above.
  4. Navigate to the Showmax website and sign in with your account credentials.
  5. Start streaming Showmax content.

Please note that while this method is commonly used to access geo-restricted content, it is important to ensure that it complies with your local laws and the terms of service of the streaming platform, so confirm to be sure you are not breaking any law before doing this.
