Nigeria’s largest mobile operator, MTN, has upgraded its 4G networks in Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt to 4G+, also known as LTE-Advanced.

4G+ is a more advanced version of 4G and provides faster speeds and better latency to users. 4G+, or accelerated 4G, can reach speeds up to 2.5 times  faster than 4G.

A statement by the company says that the new 4G+ network runs on the recently acquired 800 MHz and 2600 MHz spectrums and will deliver speeds of up to 200 Mbps.

Regular 4G has a theoretical maximum speed of 100 Mbps. As such mobile data subscribers in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt who have compatible smartphones may expect a much better experience with MTN 4G+.

No wonder I’ve been seeing this my phone signal, but i never knew it was all about this. This is a great development from MTN, what next now is to provide more affordable data plans.

Hmmm… In my city MTN 4G is the slowest, recording 3G speeds. 9mobile that hasn’t deployed 4G yet has an even better service with 3G than the MTN 4G.
