The entry-level portion of the smartphone market is popular for catering to the needs of many a smartphone user. While this section may not have some of the high-tech specs that the mid-rangers or high-end devices wield, it still serves many of its users well, and boasts a number of devices that are quite popular in parts of Asia and Africa.

Today, we will be pitting the itel S16 Pro against TECNO’s Spark 4. Both smartphones are products of Transsion, which implies they are distant relatives (cousins maybe?). They also expectedly share a number of similarities, and have some pronounced differences which we would take a closer look at shortly.

The S16 Pro is one of the newest smartphones from the stables of Transsion Holdings. This entry-level smartphone was launched about a week ago and is expected to bring some decent specs which we would be looking at today.

The S16 Pro features a more recent version of the Android OS software, unlike its cousin which launched with the older Android 9 Pie.

It also features three rear cameras with seemingly better numbers than its rival. However, camera comparisons are not always a straightforward battle and it may be hard to tell which smartphone offers better photography options just by considering the numbers.

The S16 Pro’s price is still yet to be disclosed, but with the 2GB variant of the TECNO Spark 4 selling for ₦34,500, there is a possibility that the S16 Pro will offer a cheaper option for users looking to secure an entry-level smartphone.

The Spark 4 offers more RAM than its counterpart, while also providing 2GB and 3GB RAM variants. It brings a slightly bigger display to the table compared to its rival.

It offers more onboard storage than the S16 Pro and boasts a slightly faster processor. The TECNO Spark 4 supports 4G LTE technology, meaning that users can now enjoy faster data transfer speeds with this device.

We’ve pitted the S16 Pro against its older relative in the TECNO Spark 4, but, when it comes down to making the final purchase decision, which of these smartphones should you go for?

The S16 Pro offers a newer Android version and also features three rear cameras like its counterpart. It also brings the same battery rating and external storage space as the TECNO Spark 4.

The TECNO Spark 4 boasts a larger RAM, more onboard storage space, 4G support and a slightly bigger display. However, the TECNO Spark 4 seems to be a bit pricey, even if we cannot directly compare its price point to the S16 Pro as the price of the itel is yet to be made public.

At the end of the day, the older cousin, the TECNO Spark 4, wins this head-to-head between Transsion’s entry-level devices. Its more superior specs alongside the different storage options see it best the S16 Pro.
