Huawei phones get turn-by-turn navigation with HERE Maps (former Nokia Maps)

Since the imposition of trade restrictions by the US government in 2019, new Huawei smartphones have had no access Google Apps and Services, including Google Maps. Users of those phones now have access to advanced turn-by-turn navigation, thanks to an alternative from Europe – HERE WeGo Maps.

HERE WeGo Maps offers a comprehensive set of navigation features that include useful transport information, detailed routes, offline maps, as well as turn-by-turn guidance in over 1300 cities in 100 countries. The app is now available in Huawei AppGallery, the Chinese manufacturer’s app store.

HERE Maps is an evolution from an app that was called Navteq from back in 1980. Navteq became OVI, then Nokia Maps, whioch was later sold to a consortium of car manufacturers that included Audi, BMW, and Daimler.

With HERE WeGo, users of Huawei phones can book a taxi in a single tap or navigate with detailed routes, turn-by-turn guidance to reach the destination with alternative suggestions. The app also offers full walking, public transport, bike information.

HERE WeGo Maps is available in Google Play Store as well, so if you are looking for an alternative to Google Maps, you should give it a spin. It just might be what you need or want.
