Yesterday, TECNO ‘s Facebook handle announced that the CAMON 30 Series, made up of the Camon 30, Camon 30 5G, Camon 30 Pro, and Camon 30 Premier, “offer 3-year Android updates guarantee up to Android 16 and 36-month security patches update guarantee”.

That sounds sweet. These smartphones are launching with Android 14, so you would expect that 3 years of updates means they will get Android 15, 16, and 17; right? You’d be wrong, because as TECNO explicitly said in that update, the devices will get up to only Android 16.

TECNO CAMON 30 Series software update promise - the Camon 30 series will get 3 years of software updates

So this isn’t 3 years of software updates; it is actually only two. Or perhaps TECNO means that the two updates will arrive within a 3-year period. Which would make sense, considering how long it takes then to roll out updates to their devices. I have both the Camon 20 Premier and the Phantom V Flip, both of which launched with Android 13. The former finally got the Android 14 update at Christmas 2023, while the latter is still running on Android 13 till date. I have been waiting for the Android 14 update for the Phantom V Flip since forever.

Also, my YouTube channel is chock full of comments asking when their Camon 20 series devices will get Android 14, so apart from the Camon 20 Premier, it does not appear that other Camon 20 devices are getting Android 14 yet. Perhaps it will roll out towards the end of 2024?

So, yes; I am I climbed to believe that TECNO will indeed release two software updates for the Camon 30 series over a three-year period.

As part of keeping your device fresh, relevant, and ready for whatever the future holds, TECNO offers 36 months of security patches for the Camon 30 series. That’s three years, as well. Don’t expect the patches to come in monthly. They are more likely to come in quarterly, if my experience with my current devices are anything to go buy.

While the Camon 30, Camon 30 5ag, and Camon 30 Pro are in the market already, the Camon 30 Premier is yet to be launched here. As a matter of fact, some store keepers are not even aware that the Camon 30 Premier exists. I was at a phone store in Ikeja last week and asked about when the Premier would go on sale. The lady argued with me that the Premier does not exist and that what I meant must be the Pro. Sigh.

Anyway, if you have been wondering what the differences between the Camon 30 Pro and the Camon 30 Premier are, have a look at the embedded YouTube video below.
