Important iOS security issues: If you own these iPhone and iPad models, update them now to keep safe

Apple says they have identified a security issue which allows an application to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges, and another that uses maliciously crafted web content to trigger arbitrary code execution on specific iPhone models. In simple terms, these exploits can allow a 3rd party get full access to your phone remotely to access pretty much anything they want on it.

Apple says there is a report that this issue may have been exploited already, meaning at least one person’s iPhone may have been broken into. These security issues affect iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation). That means every iPhone, iPad, and iPod model from the listed ones till date are vulnerable. The good news is that Apple has now released a software update to fix the issues.

iOS 15.6.1 and iPadOS 15.6.1 address these security issues

Apple has released iOS 15.6.1 and iPadOS 15.6.1 software updates to fix these issues on affected models. If you own one of them, go to your phone settings now to download and install the updates, to keep your iPhone secure. The path to follow on your iPhone: Settings > General > Software Update. Run the update and that’s it.
