Data Gifting: This is quite different from the first one above. Here, you are going to buy a data plan for your friends and family using your own airtime balance. If you have 3,000 airtime, you can use it to purchase a 12GB data plan for the person who asked.
How to Share Data on Airtel using Data Me2U
Follow the steps below to share data on Airtel with fellow users using Data Me2U or Data Share.

- Go to your Phone app, and dial *312#
- Reply with * to go to the next page.
- Select the “Gifting & Sharing” option. It is no. 13 on the list.
- Select Data Me2U, it is option 4 on the list.
- Select “Send Me2U from existing balance”, it is option 2 on the list.
- Now, enter the recipient’s number and the amount of data you want to share.
How to Share Data on Airtel using Data Gifting
To use data gifting, first, you have to change your Airtel Data Share pin from the default to the one you pick. The default PIN is 1234.
Follow the steps below to change your Airtel Me2U PIN.
- Go to your phone app, dial *312#
- Reply with * to go to the next page.
- Select the “Gifting & Sharing” option. It is no. 13 on the list.
- Reply with 1 to Change PIN.
- Now, enter the default PIN, 1234.
- Enter your new PIN, and tap Send.
- Enter your new PIN again to confirm, and tap Send.

- Reply with * to go to the next page.
- Select the “Gifting & Sharing” option. It is no. 13 on the list.
- Select Data Gifting, it is option 2 on the list.
- Select the type of bundle you want to buy for the user, whether it is weekly, monthly, mega, etc.
- Select the specific plan you want to buy e.g. 1.5GB for 1000 naira monthly plan.
- Reply with 1 (To Activate)
- Now, enter the phone number of the person you want to buy data for.
- Enter your PIN.
Viola! You have bought that data plan for the person.
Key Things to Note About Sharing Data on Airtel
- You can only share data with fellow Airtel users.
- Data Sharing and Data Gifting is for both Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers
- The maximum amount of data that you can share in one go is 200MB.
- For Data Me2U, only regular data bundle plans are available – Weekly/Daily Bundles, Monthly Bundles, and Mega Packs.
- The shared data will expire at the same time as the original data plan it was shared from. If your plan expires on 24th Dec, the shared data will also expire on the same day.
- You can only share data with a maximum of 2 persons in one day.
- The maximum amount of data you can share in a day is 400MB (200MB to two people).
- You cannot share data from your borrowed data balance.
- For Data Gifting, there is no limit to the amount of times that you can use it in a day.
