Breaking: TECNO Phantom V Flip Android 14 Update (HiOS 14.5) Is Here!

The much awaited Android 14 update for the Phantom V Flip 5G is here. I got the notification for the TECNO Phantom V Flip Android 14 update this afternoon when I did a manual update check.

Better late than never; right? Yes, though I wish these updates will come faster from TECNO. Anyway, let’s look at what the update changelog says is new.

Features of the TECNO Phantom V Flip Android 14 Update

Upgraded from Android 13 to Android 14 for enhanced security, more features, and a better user experience.

OS Version

Upgraded from HIOS 13.5.0 to HIOS 14.5.0 for a smarter user interface that gives your device a new look.

Al

1. Upgraded Al Voice Assistant for a brand-new UI, a surround light effect for assistant wakeup, and new features such as Al Search and Web Summarization, bringing you a more smarter user experience.
2. Added Al Wallpaper Generator, which supports wallpaper generation based on both text and images, allowing you to easily have your own personalized wallpapers.

Camera & Image

1. Supported three-level brightness adjustment of Flashlight for you to adjust as desired.
2. Optimized the screen brightness adjustment strategy for clearer and more vivid shots.
3. Optimized the multi-touch strategy to allow you to control Camera more freely.
4. Added Al Eraser to Al Gallery for you to freely remove unwanted parts from images.

Cute Pets

1. There are 10 cute pets, including Luna, Mochi, Moy, and Mars, for you to choose from.
2. Your pet will interact with you in scenarios such as charging, low battery, sleeping, notification reminder, and shaking your phone.
3. You can tap on the pet to trigger new interactive animations, and there is a chance to trigger sound effects.

Dual System

Added Dual System. The main system and the second system are independent of each other, secure and convenient. The second system apps and data are isolated from the main space (except for messages). The main and second systems can have separate fingerprints and passwords, supporting switching between the two on the lock screen.

Settings

1. Upgrade MemFusion to reduce the storage usage of your phone and free up more space for you.
2. Added Smart Frame Stabilizer to bring you a smoother and more stable user experience.
3. To check for system updates, please go to Settings > My Phone and find the top OS card.

My thoughts

For a foldable phone, there is no mention of any improvement to the cover display in the TECNO Phantom V Flip Android 14 Update changelog. It would be nice to have better functionality there, so one can actually at least read incoming messages and alerts there. So, a year and a major Android update later, the cover display of the Phantom Z Flip is still as useless as it was the day it was released?

How is Cute Pets a priority and not improved actual functionality? Wahala wa o.

That aside, everything else listed above is okay. 2024 has been the year of AI in smartphones, so seeing AI on the list is no surprise.

I am itching to see what visual and UX differences HiOS 14.5 brings over v13.5 which is what runs on the phone now. I will update this article as soon as I have downloaded and installed the update.
