With the announcement of the new Xiaomi 15 series has also come the latest version of Xiaomi’s custom Android skin, HyperOS 2. Not all software upgrades come with visual and graphics changes that make us drool. HyperOS 2.0 is one such update: you are not going to see anything that gets you excited. But that does not mean it does not bring improvements here and there.
Most improvements that HyperOS 2.0 bring are not visible, but they are there under the hood and include improved performance, more advanced customization options, AI features, and improved connectivity, among others.

Features of Xiaomi HyperOS 2
Let’s look at the features that HyperOS 2.0 is bringing to your device. One key point to note is that the new features will be selectively released depending on the grade or class of each phone. In practical terms, it means that entry-level Redmi smartphones will lack certain improvements for obvious reasons – their limited processing power. More premium devices will get more new features.
- Improved Memory and Resource Management.
- New Wallpaper and Lockscreen Customizations include new AI-generated wallpapers, new movie-like lockscreen, and new home layout.
- Improved UI/Interface Animations and textures while unlocking the phone, during volume control, while adjusting brightness, popup animation for media control in control center, when opening control center and notification panel, and more.
- New Control Center Animations when you long press the brightness slider, media slider, auto brightness toggle, and reading mode toggle, it opens a card with a label.
- New AI Features include AI Writing (text generation, summarization, error correction, etc), AI Translation, AI Magic Painting, AI Voice Recognition, and AI Anti-Fraud.
- New Settings Layout: The Settings menu now has a new card layout and the about page is updated.
As already spelt out, there isn’t a lot about HyperOS 2.0 that is super exciting. It is more of a minor update.
Note that HyperOS 2 will come in two variants – one based on the older Android 14 and other on Android 15 for more up-to-date devices. We have seen this kind of dichotomy in the past with MUIU, so it isn’t anything new. In a sense, it is a good thing: even if your Xiaomi or Redmi smartphone does not get Android 15, you can still enjoy HyperOS 2 on it.
