Making A Case For Compact, Slim Power Banks

It has to be easier for the rich to enter the kingdom of God than for one to find a compact and slim power bank in Nigeria today. Yet, these type of power banks offer convenience for those who need to extend their phone’s battery life on the move.

It must have something to do with the appalling state of public power supply in many locations in Nigeria. I understand that living with the uncertainty of guaranteed power supply, day after day, means that when you want to buy a power bank, you opt for the largest capacity possible. And this must be why big power banks are the norm in gadget stores, everywhere you turn in Nigeria.

Lots of consumers need a hefty power bank so they can access a stored reserve to charge their phones as many times as possible on a full charge. This is what makes massive power banks so appealing to Nigerians. And, understandably, retailers are stocking what is in demand.

I have scouted online stores and not found any compact and slim power bank on sale. I have walked the streets and checked out physical stores as well and not found any either. What I have found, instead are massive power banks with capacities of 60,000mAh, 30,000mAh, 20,000mAh – and the smallest, 10,000mAh. Just have a look at this big guy with 30,000mAh capacity.

Some of these things are so massive and heavy that they would serve as effective weapons of armed combat. They are certainly not designed to be carried around casually. If you were travelling or hiking, of course, you would be able to fit one of them into your knapsack or handbag. But for casual outings like attending a wedding, going out for a drink, or time out dancing, you don’t want to carry one of those bricks around. I know I don’t.

Which is why I have been in search of compact and slim power banks. I want something that can fit into a trouser pocket without giving me a bulge. As a matter of fact, a credit card sized power bank is cool. That will fit in my wallet. And I have seen one, but not here in Nigeria. I would have to import it. But the shipping cost is three to four times the cost of the device itself. That just doesn’t make financial sense.

Unless someone decides to start importing and selling compact, slim power banks to meet the needs of people like me – people who want convenience – it looks like a lost battle. How many consumers fall within the small demography that I fit in? Most consumers in this country want the biggest power redundancy possible. I want convenience. Wanting a portable battery of that size means that I will sacrifice capacity. One compact power bank that I saw had a 2500mAh capacity. That one was designed like a key ring or car fob. Nice and handy. I like it. But that particular one was designed for old school iPhones only. It has a Lightning port; no USB-C. Bummer.

A 2500mAh power bank of that nature will provide me with convenience and enough power to top up my smartphone with 40-50% its battery capacity. I do not mind. It means I get a few extra hours of usage when out and about. Blame the smallish 4000mAh battery of the Phantom V Flip and its relatively poor battery life for this new obsession of mine with small and slim power banks.

I would not even mind a slightly bigger power bank with 5000mAh capacity, as long as it remains in compact and slim territory. What I do not want is anything that will add bulk to smart dressing on the rare occasions that I have to be outside and away from power supply for extended hours. Yes, because absolutely nothing is messing up with my steeze and rizz. If you have a plug who has something that fits my needs as specified in this article, holla.
