TECNO’s Spark series devices are mid-range phones with the fairly good specs and features. True to its lineage, TECNO Spark 8C packs a 6.6-inch 720 x 1600 pixels resolution, IPS LCD screen with 90Hz refresh rate, runs Android 11 (Go Edition), and is powered by a 5000mAh battery.

Being a budget smartphone, it has more features than you will find on a cheap handset. For example, the high refresh rate already mentioned above, 3 GB of RAM, 64 GB of memory storage, and, of course, a fingerprint scanner. There is no fast charging (though there is 10W charging), no USB-C port, and no Gorilla Glass, though. It is powered by an octa-core Unisoc Tiger T606 chipset.

The Spark 8C has a lower spec variant with 2 GB of RAM. Thankfully, the handset has a dedicated memory card slot, so you can expand the memory to store more videos and photos. And you just might need it for the photos and videos you will be snapping.

Do note that TECNO says the lower variant with 2/64 GB memory configuration does not support 90Hz refresh rate. That is a small price to pay for the value that you get.

At the rear is a dual camera setup consisting of a13-megapixel primary lens and a secondary AI depth shooter. It has a quad-LED flash for low-light and night photos. At the front for your selfies is an 8-megapixel lens with LED flash.

TECNO Spark 8C Unboxing: What is in the box?

We got our hands on one and took a look in the sales box. It contains the phone itself, a flexible silicone case, 13 months warranty card, a 3.5 mm headphone, a USB cable, wall power plug, and SIM card ejector pin. A complete box it is.

TECNO Spark 8C First Impressions

The Spark 8C is a big smartphone with a 6.6-inch display. You feel it immediately you pick it up. And it is solidly built too. While the back is made of plastic, it has a premium feel to it, making the phone feel like it costs more than its price. It is kudos from us for the build quality.

Our review unit is the 3 GB RAM variant. However, it has a neat virtual RAM feature that lets you convert part of the phone’s built-in storage into virtual RAM. The idea is to improve the running of the system. TECNO calls this their implementation of virtual RAM, Memory fusion. On the Spark 8C, you can enable 1GB, 2GB, or 3GB virtual RAM. Of course, we chose 3 GB, so we can see how good it performs.

For now everything runs smoothly, partly because we haven’t loaded the phone up. We shall give a detailed account of how smoothly the phone runs after we have set it up properly and load it up for daily use. Read our in-depth TECNO Spark 8C review.
