The basic and most essential supporting documents are:
- Copy of your NIN slip
- Valid ID (Passport, Driver’s License, Voter’s Card)

After completing the change to your NIN by yourself online, it can take 2-6 weeks for the correction or modification you made to be reflected, depending on what kind of change it is. Change of name is usually the fastest to reflect.

Making a change to your date of birth can be done only once and it may require you to complete birth attestation/registration on the National Population Commission (NPC) website before you can then carry out the modification on the NIMC portal.
Here are the steps to follow:
- To begin, you have to verify your NIN and log in.
- On your dashboard, select the date of birth modification option.
- Complete the payment for the modification securely, using your ATM card.
- Input your NPC certificate number and validate it. Your date of birth will automatically be pre-populated in a non-editable format. If you have misplaced your birth certificate, you have to proceed to do a birth attestation online on the NPC website, http://nationalpopulation.org.ng.
- After doing that, return to the NIN portal to upload your NPC certificate.
- Submit your modification request and preview your information.
- Next, check the attestation box and then submit your request.
- Collect your modification transaction slip promptly from the modification table.
- Once approved, you will get a notification.
- You can print your NIN slip directly from your dashboard. In addition, a copy will be sent to your email.
