The smartphone industry is constantly evolving, and one of the key factors that determines the performance, efficiency, and features of a smartphone is the processor. The processor, also known as the system-on-chip (SoC), is the brain of the device that handles everything from basic tasks to complex computations. In 2024, we have seen some of the most advanced and powerful processors ever created, with new technologies, architectures, and capabilities.

The Very Best Phone Processor in 2024

The answer to that question is: MediaTek Dimensity 9300. Ardent fans of Qualcomm Snapdragon processors might be shocked – and some even go into denial – over this pronouncement. But the days are gone when MediaTek processors were always automatically inferior to their Qualcomm equivalents. Quite a number of MediaTek processors now outgun their counterparts from Qualcomm and elsewhere.

The Dimensity 9300 is a powerful processor that was launched by MediaTek in 2023. It is based on a 4 nm process and has eight cores, four of which are Cortex-A78 clocked at 3.25 GHz and four of which are Cortex-A55 clocked at 2.0 GHz. It also has a Mali-G720 MC20 GPU and supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and 120 Hz displays.

The next question is, “Which smartphones use the Dimensity 9300 processor? In answering that question, I shall list them in two categories: those already released at the time of publishing this article in March 2024, and upcoming models.

They come in different variants of RAM and storage, ranging from 12 GB to 16 GB and from 256 GB to 1 TB respectively.

OPPO Find X7 series: These are premium smartphones that have a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, a 64 MP + 50 MP + 50 MP triple rear camera, and a 32 MP front camera. They also have a 5000 mAh battery with 100W fast charging. They come in different variants of RAM and storage, ranging from 12 GB to 16 GB and from 256 GB to 1 TB respectively.

iQOO Neo 9 Pro: This is a gaming smartphone that has a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a 144 Hz refresh rate, a 200 MP + 32 MP + 5 MP triple rear camera, and a 32 MP front camera. It also has a 5160 mAh battery with 120W fast charging. It comes with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

Upcoming models:

Xiaomi Redmi K70 Ultra: This is an upcoming flagship smartphone that is expected to have a 6.72-inch AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, a 200 MP + 32 MP + 5 MP triple rear camera, and a 32 MP front camera. It is also expected to have a 5500 mAh battery with 120W fast charging. It is rumored to come with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

TECNO Phantom V2 Fold: This is an upcoming foldable smartphone that is expected to have a 7.8-inch AMOLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate, a 50 MP + 50 MP + 50 MP triple rear camera, and a 50 MP front camera. It is also expected to have a 5000 mAh battery with 100W fast charging. It is rumored to come with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

Waiting for A18 Bionic

There is a pattern with smartphone processors, each year. The best phone processors from Qualcomm, MediaTek, Exynos and other chip makers get released much earlier than Apple’s which arrives on September. So, one of those others holds the title of best phone processor for many months until Apple’s announcement, and then the Apple processor takes the title for the last 3 to 4 months of the year.
