ZLT UPS50 Mini UPS Review

Nothing to Unbox

The device comes in a compact white box. There isn’t much to unbox: inside the box is the ZLT UPS50 itself and a paper user guide. That’s it. I don’t even see the point if making an unboxing video. What’s there to unbox?

I do particularly like the fact that it is compact and lightweight. I have seen some other models that just take up unnecessary space. Top marks to this one for sparing us all of that.

Setting up

The mini UPS does not come with a power adapter, so you have to buy one. Fortunately for me, I had its adapter type lying idle somewhere and put it to use. The charger type is same as used for DsTV decoder. Here is what it looks like:

The device has a built-in connector cable to plug into the router, so you don’t have to worry yourself about getting one.

Plug the power adapter into a wall socket and to the device. Then, plug the router connector output cable to your router. Next, flip on the power switch on the other side of the device and you are good to go.

Is the ZLT UPS50 Mini UPS any good?

As seen in the first image above, the mini UPS has two LED lights. The one on the left indicates the battery state, while the one on the right indicates the charging state. The battery state LED is blue when there is adequate charge in the battery and it turns red when power is low.

The charging state LED is blue during charging and goes off when charging is completed.

Charging time: it takes about 6 hours to go from empty to full charge.

Battery life or discharge/backup time: I have experienced the ZLT UPS50 go for a little over 6 hours backup time before power supply on a full charge. If I get the chance to use it beyond that, I will update this article.

But 6 hours of backup time sounds like a good deal, though you can’t blame me for wishing it can go for 8 hours. I doubt that it will, though, as the battery LED had already been red for at least 30 minutes before the 6-hour point.

Long-term performance

After the nasty experience that I had with the Tiger DC UPS TDC-1100 uninterruptible power unit some years back, I have been generally wary of router UPS models. The ZLT UPS50 is off to a good start and I am looking forward to providing longer-term feedback, say in another 6 months, at the least. That is where the real test will be.

If it is still holding a charge well by then, we will be able to give it a very good score and recommend it heartily.

ZLT UPS50 vs ZLT UPS100

Because of the lack of clear, concise information out there, I am going to add this section. The ZLT UPS100 is a similar model to the UPS50. The differences are reflected in the following specs of the ZLT UPS100:

  • A bigger 5000mAh capacity battery.
  • It is much heavier at 290g.
  • It is also slightly longer with dimensions of 116x85x25 mm.
  • It also will cost more.

Price & availability

The ZLT UPS50 mini UPS costs around ₦20,000 to ₦22,000 right now in the market. You will find it on Jiji, Jumia, Konga, and other online market places. And since there is nothing you cannot find at Computer Village, Ikeja, I am sure that you will find it there as well.
