There is a new mobile phone brand in town, and they don’t respond to questions about their products

When you are new in town, you are looking to make a good first impression. This is universally true, whether it is dating, war, or business. The dating period is when everyone puts their best foot forward. Which is why I find it odd that the newest mobile phone brand in Nigeria is terrible at responding to enquiries.

You probably do not know what brand I am talking about, because nobody is talking about them publicly yet. That is how unknown they still are. I would expect that a brand that is not on the public radar yet would be more enthusiastic when at least one person – or a few people – start reaching out to them.

I won’t mention the name, but it starts with an M. So, henceforth, I shall refer to them as M. Sounds like something out of a James Bond movie; right? That’s how we roll.

Anyway, about three months ago, I came across a publicity material by M for two of their products. The material was unclear about some features and specs, and I thought to clarify from them. So I fired them a WhatsApp message. That was on the 15th of March. Till today, that message has not been responded to.

About a week or two later, I sent them a message on a social media platform where they are active. Till today, there has been no response to my enquiry. Yet that handle posts regularly. The brand is active there.

Whoever is in charge of these things at M is not going about it the right way and needs to fix up. In the 20+ years I have been doing this, I have seen brands go down this route and eventually disappear sooner than later.

M currently has two smartphones in the ₦100,000 price range in the market – and they are pushing those harder than their other products. The brand is targeting the entry-level market, which is a good move, as that is where most purchases happen. It just would be better if they handled their communications better.

Anyway, if you have time to spare and you are up for some fun, feel free to guess the correct name of the brand.
