TECNO Mobile’s POP series are popular among low income earners who want a smartphone, The POP 4 quickly followed on the heels of the POP 3, which was released only in December 2019. TECNO POP 4 arrived in July 2020, just about half a year after.
The POP 4 has a bigger display, a much bigger battery, double the RAM, and double the internal storage of its predecessor. The cameras have the same specifications though, but hopefully include some improvements that will produce better photographs.
Like TECNO POP 3, TECNO POP 4 is a 3G smartphone. You cannot take advantage of any of the 4G mobile networks by MTN, Glo, 9mobile, Airtel, or Smile – or any other. How does that work in 2020? That is something we are exploring as we speak.
A 5000 mAh battery is respectable by all means. But all you have with the POP 4 is good old snail charging. That means leaving the phone plugged in for hours to get it to a full charge. How long will that take? How long will it take to empty it with daily use – 2 days, 3 days, 4? Again, we will find out and bring you all the details.

We can tell you upfront though that TECNO POP 4 feels firmly built, and thankfully isn’t bulky or heavy. First impressions of the rear camera is that it delivers better details than its peers. It even does better than the rear camera of the 4G-capable itel S15 Pro, a favourite budget smartphone with us.
But the operating system is riddled pre-installed bloatware and with ads here and there. Can the bloatware uninstalled and the ads disabled? Find out in our detailed review.
Eventually, we will give you our verdict – whether we think that your ₦36,000 is worth spending on TECNO POP 4, especially as the POP 3 is still available in the market for about ₦28,000.
