Posted by Back in October 2024, Starlink had announced a traiff increase for its subscribers in Nigeria. That increase was quickly suspended after the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) wielded the big stick against the operator.
Since then, there have been feelers from industry insiders that telecom operators and Internet service providers in Nigeria as a whole were making moves to get tariff increments approved by the NCC. A few days ago, news broke that the official approval had been granted.
It isn’t quite news to find out that Starlink has now emailed subscribers announcing a price hike. The tariffs are the same amounts that it had announced in October 2024 and they now take effect from January 2025. Below is the body of the email that the company sent out today.
To continue enhancing the Starlink network and delivering reliable, high-quality service across Nigeria, we are adjusting our monthly subscription prices. These changes reflect our commitment to investing in the infrastructure needed to support and improve your experience with Starlink.
- Standard (Residential): ₦75,000
- Mobile-Regional (Roam Unlimited): ₦167,000
- Mobile-Global (Global Roam): ₦717,000
As a current customer, your monthly service price will increase in 1 month, beginning 27 January 2025. For new customers, the price increase is effective immediately. If you do not wish to continue your service, you can cancel at any time.

So, it is finally official: the new Starlink tariffs are coming to you. If like most subscribers in Nigeria, you are on the Standard plan, your new monthly payment will be ₦75,000. That is almost double what you have been paying before.
With industry-wide approval for tariff increases granted by the NCC, subscribers can expect announcements from other players like MTN, Airtel, Globacom, 9mobile, Smile, Ntel, Swift, and the like.
2024 isn’t over yet and 2025 is already not smiling for millions of data subscribers in Nigeria. Of course, the tariff increases are understandable under the current economic circumstances of the country. It just does not make it any easier to bear.
