Report: Starlink suspends recent price hike, cites regulatory challenges

We have not been able to confirm have confirmed the announcement, buthere are subscribed reports going round saying We have confirmed reports that Starlink sent out a mail announcing a suspension of the recent price increase for their service in Nigeria.

Here is the back story: On the 1st of October, Starlink increased their tariffs and subscriptions in Nigeria. The hike was effectively a 200% increase that caused an uproar. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the regulatory body overseeing Starlink’s operations in Nigeria, soon responded with a statement.

It appears that the NCC has taken action against Starlink with respect to the price hike. Here is the body of the alleged email from Starlink announcing the suspension of the price hike:

Last month, we increased the monthly service price for Starlink in Nigeria to account for inflation, helping us maintain operations and continue delivering reliable service. Today, we are temporarily suspending this price increase as we navigate regulatory challenges.

If you’ve already been charged at the higher rate, a one-time credit will be applied to your account to cover the difference. You also have the flexibility to cancel your service at any time.

We remain committed to providing high-speed internet in Nigeria, but we need regulatory support to make the improvements necessary for a better customer experience. Without these approvals, our ability to continue delivering service is at risk.

One of our partners here at Mobility Nigeria is a Starlink subscriber. He says he has not received this email. October 29 Update: Our partner says for his subscription renewal this month, he has been billed ₦38,000 instead of the ₦75,000 increase. This is confirmation that the tariff hike has indeed been reversed.
