Redmi Note 14 Series Launched: The Pro models are built super strong

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note series have been very popular in the market. The series often has as many as six models released under it. This year, Xiaomi kicked things off with the Redmi Note 14 Pro and Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus, then quickly followed up that same week with the Redmi Note 14 5G.

This year, some models in the Redmi Note series have embraced the rugged life and offer above average protection from dust, water and drops. Sounds exciting!

This has been announced as the entry-level model of the series. This suggests that there will be no 4G model in the Redmi Note 14 series. That will be an interesting move. That leaves 4G LTE models restricted to the Redmi and Redmi Ax series.

Anyway, the Redmi Note launches with HyperOS based on Android 14, and has a 6.67-inch, 120Hz OLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Under the hood is a MediaTek Dimensity 7025 Ultra chipset which is paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The built-in storage can be extended with a microSD card, should you need more space. A 5110mAh battery keeps the power on and there is 45W charging coupled with that.

Everyone wants a capable camera in their phones. For selfies, the Redmi Note 14 5G has a 16MP snapper in a punch hole. Flip to the back of the phone and you will find a 50MP wide-angle main shooter and a 2MP macro lens. Xiaomi should not have bothered with the macro lens; those 2MP cameras are essentially useless at this point.

How much does the Redmi Note 14 5G cost? The base 6/128GB variant costs $170, while the 12/256GB variant costs $245. These are converted prices from the Chinese Yen, as the phone has only been announced for China at this time. A global announcement for the rest of the world is expected soon.

If past patterns are anything to go buy, the 14 5G will be available in countries across Africa, Europe, and Asia. It is available in three colour schemes – Starry White, Phantom Blue, and Midnight Black.

Sitting above the 14 5G is the 14 Pro. It is also a 5G smartphone, of course, so you can expect it to be listed as Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G in some quarters. The really new thing about the 14 Pro is that it is built tough. It is not just IP68 dust and waterproof, but the internals of the phone have some form of impact cushioning built around them and the four corners of the phone are reinforced against impact should the phone get dropped. It has also been subjected to TUV SUD tests and the manufacturers says it will survive drops from 1.8 metres. That is a major upgrade there.

Under the hood is a more powerful Dimensity 7300-Ultra. This is coupled with options of 8GB and 12GB RAM. Built-in storage options are 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. This means that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro is available in three storage variants – 8/128GB, 8/256GB, and 12/512GB. These cost the equivalent of $200, x, and x respectively.

For photography and videography, there is a 20MP selfie camera in a punch hole in the display. At the back are 50MP wide-angle camera, an 8MP ultrawide angle camera, and that same redundant 2MP macro lens that nobody should be bothering with anymore.

The 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The Redmi Note 14 Pro is available in four colour schemes: Mirror Porcelain White, Twilight Purple, Green, and Midnight Black.

The big daddy of the pack is Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus which is powered by a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset. It is paired with 12GB of LPDDR4X or 16GB LPDDR5 of RAM and there are built-in storage options of 256GB UFS 2.2 and 512GB UFS 3.1.

It has a 6.67-inch AMOLED curved display with 120Hz refresh rate, and it is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The back of the phone is also protected by Gorilla Glass, but a different version, 7i.

Of course, this is a tough smartphone too, and has IP68 dust/water resistance, and the internals have some form of impact cushioning built around them and the four corners of the phone are reinforced against impact should the phone get dropped. And should you want to go hiking, the 14 Pro+ will be an excellent companion in terms of battery life. It is fitted with a large 6200mAh silicon-carbon anode battery, along with 90W fast charging.

The selfie camera is a 20MP shooter similar to what obtains in the 14 Pro model. At the back, the camera array includes a 50MP main lens, a 50MP telephoto lens, and an 8MP ultrawide lens. Thankfully, that 2MP macro lens present in the lower models has been discarded here.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is available in three memory options – 12/256GB, 12/512GB, and 16/512GB. Colour options include Black, White, and Green.

We are expecting a global launch which is sure to include Nigeria, and we will provide you with details of local pricing then.
