I woke up to news of a Nokia Maze Pro Lite 2020 everywhere – on social media and on Nairaland. It is supposedly an upcoming smartphone from HMD Global. The specifications of the rumoured phone are mouth-watering, from the 6.6-inch display to the Snapdragon 865 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and all the way to the 8500mAh battery.
Those specs would get anyone’s attention. They got mine. But everything about this Nokia Maze Lite 2020 smells like a hoax. And the image attached? It definitely looks like a hoax. Have a look:
That camera bump and the rest of the design language on this image is a reproduction of the iPhone 11 Pro. Whoever designed this simply slapped a Nokia logo on the design of the iPhone 11 Pro and gave it a nice paint job. This image is a cooked-up iPhone 11 Pro rip-off.
Anyone who has followed Nokia for a few years will also freely tell you that this suppsed image of Nokia Maze Pro Lite 2020 does not reflect the design language of Nokia phones. I find it ridiculous that so many blogs are writing about it as an authentic upcoming smartphone.
Not only does it not reflect the design language that we have come to identify with Nokia smartphones, the name, Nokia Maze Pro Lite 2020, also does not reflect Nokia’s smartphone naming scheme. As a matter of fact, this name is ridiculously non-Nokia.
What else does the supposed Nokia Maze Pro Lite 2020 offer? A 48-megapixel triple rear camera (some blogs claim it is 64-megapixels), a pop-up front-facing camera, Gorilla Glass 6, USB Type-C reversible connector, IP68 water and dust resistance, and a whopping 8500mAh battery.
Let’s talk about that battery: unless HMD Global has developed a new battery type, it is difficult to imagine an 8500mAh capacity battery fitting into the slim profile of the image above. The rest of the alleged specs are below.
Alleged Nokia Maze Pro Lite 2020 Specs

I also noticed that none of the trusted names in the global mobile industry has any info on this device. Not Mobility Arena, not GSM Arena, not BGR. The news of Nokia Maze Pro Lite 2020 is being carried by fly-by-night blogs and handles. No reputable blog or leakster is carrying it as authentic news or even as a rumour.
If it looks like a hoax, smells like a hoax, and quacks like a hoax, it definitely is a hoax. Every now and then, specs and images of a rumoured Nokia flagship with outstanding features begin to float around the internet. Remember the Nokia Edge? It was a hoax, and Nokia Maze Pro Lite 2020 is another one just like that one.

There is a long list of such phantom “Nokia smartphones” that have nothing to do with HMD Global or Nokia Mobile. It looks like there is a whole industry of ghost Nokia phones out there. And all of these ghost phones have ridiculous specs and prey on the ignorance of the general market.
What I find really disturbing is that so many tech bloggers and news sites really do believe that Nokia Maze Pro Lite 2020 is an authentic Nokia device to be released by HMD Global and are publishing it as valid news. It doesn’t take much to set up a website and publish articles, and it seems every Tom, Dick, and Harry, no matter how clueless, have jumped in now.
You can safely disregard the rumours and news flying around about this phone. Nokia Maze Pro Lite 2020 is not going to show up in the market. It is a hoax. It is fake. A real Nokia phone that you can look forward to joining the rank of the latest Nokia phones in 2020 is the Nokia 9.3 PureView.
PS: I am still getting questions about the release date and price of Nokia Maze Pro Lite 2020 from people in various countries, like Kenya, Nigeria, and others. This phone does not exist. It is a hoax. There is no release date or price.
