Huawei’s 2nd Gen foldable phone, Huawei Mate Xs, is official

In the wake of the release of foldable smartphones from various makers this year, Huawei has launched its second foldable smartphone, an upgrade on the first-gen Huawei Mate X.

This device called the Huawei Mate Xs comes with a unified 8-inch display which has a double-layer optical polyamide screen said to make it 30 per cent more durable than previous editions. The Huawei Mate Xs folds outwards, opening up to reveal the display, when closed, the rear part is disabled, letting you operate the device with the front side.

The Huawei Mate Xs camera setup is said to house a 40MP wide-angle camera with an RYB sensor, indicating that it should have the same low-light performance noticed in the P30 Pro. The main sensor has an 8MP telephoto camera and a 12MP telephoto camera on the sides.

This device runs on a Kirin 990 SoC which is able to support 5G technology. With 8GB of RAM and an onboard storage of 512GB, this device is definitely one to look out for. The Mate Xs comes with two batteries boasting a combined rating of 4,500mAh, supports fast charging (it is said to be able to charge to 85 percent in 30 minutes!) and also supports reverse wireless charging.

With an Android 10 OS in the bag, this device has the specs to battle favourably against the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip which was unveiled barely a fortnight ago. The Huawei Mate Xs is expected to be sold for €2,499 which is rather steep but still sensible given the specs this device wields. With the device set to be available for purchase globally in March, we would keep our eyes and ears on that one to see how it fares in the market.
