Google has announced that Google Sync for Nokia S60 is one of the services that they are discontinuing on the 30th of January 2013. Google Sync allows access to Gmail, Google Calendar, and Contacts via the Microsoft® Exchange ActiveSync® protocol. That means that it is this service that allows Symbian/Belle users to synchronise Gmail, google Calendar and Contacts on their devices. The implication is that Symbian/Belle users are on their own fro m end of January 2013. At least, Google’s documentation seems pretty clear about that:
If you have an older Nokia device, check to see if you are syncing with Google via Mail for Exchange on your device. If so, we recommend you consult Nokia’s Support Site for how to sync with Google on your device.
Unless I am reading this wrong, Mail for Exchange and SyncML will no longer be supported by Google from the specified time. If you use Google’s suite of services and need to synchronise your Gmail, Calendar and contacts, it is up to you and Nokia to find a way around this. Or alternatively, switch away from Symbian/Belle.
