The Cost of Samsung Phone Screen Repairs: Let’s Talk About It

Samsung is one of the largest mobile phone brands in the world and also one of the biggest in Nigeria, dwarfed only by Transsion (TECNO, Infinix, and itel). It is also known for the incredibly high cost of its phone screens. If you have ever needed to replace the display of a Samsung smartphone, you can definitely relate. The cost of Samsung phone screens is the beginning of wisdom. Maybe not exactly, considering how many Samsung phone owners still end up with a shattered or cracked display that needs fixing.

I don’t think that anyone will argue the claim that Samsung manufactures some of the best phone displays in the industry. Even Apple orders displays from Samsung for their iPhone models; that is how good the brand is at making good quality displays. Good things cost money; right? As such, is it odd that Samsung phone screens are costly to replace?

Anyway, this article was inspired by a comment that one of our community members left for us on Facebook. Here is exactly what he said:

The number one fear of anyone trying to buy a phone in Nigeria today is the price of Samsung phone screens. I’m not a pessimist but they should do something about it if they want to conquer the Nigerian mobile phone market from the Chinese.

Cost Of Samsung Phone Screens

Personally, I am more concerned about the disparity in functional value between low-end Smasung phones and their competitors. How do I mean? For example, for N142,000, you will get a 4GB RAM and 64GB storage version of the Samsung Galaxy A06, when a similar amount will get you an itel P65 with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. The Helio G85 and Unisoc T615 chipsets in these respective models are similar, as are most other features and specs. It is this kind of difference in practical value that I think affects sales more. But I just might be wrong.

Samsung Screen Insurance

In the meantime, one way to mitigate the cost of Samsung phone screen repairs is to take up a Samsung screen insurance, so you pay a small premium upfront and get your faulty display fixed for a really low sum. For example, a 2-year screen insurance for the Galaxy A05 means you will pay only N9,000 to have the display repaired. I don’t have more details, so I cannot say it this fee includes a situation where the screen needs to be replaced.

Green lines of Samsung phone screens and questions about quality

Meanwhile, since we are on the subject, many Samsung phone owners have been experiencing an issue with the display of their devices. According to the phone owners, this fault just starts randomly without any falls or drops. Their Samsung phone screens simply start displaying green vertical lines. Here is an example of what it looks like:

And while it starts with one or two lines, it gets progressively worse over time. A friend of mine has a Samsung Galaxy S21 whose display is now almost completely covered by green vertical lines months after the issue first started. And this is not an isolated incident; social media is full of users complaining about the green vertical line problems in their Samsung smartphones. This begins to raise questions over the quality of these Samsung phone screens or of other components that might be causing this problem in the phones.

Anyway, do you think that Samsung needs to lower the cost of their smartphone screens to make those devices more appealing to the market? Will you buy a Samsung smartphone more often if the cost of replacing the display was more pocket-friendly? Lastly, do you think that Samsung phone screen repairs are worth the prices they are being done? Let’s hear you; leave me a comment below.

Given that the screen is the medium with / through which we interact with our phones, it stands to reason that we should go for the phones with best displays possible.

I particularly love phones with great legibility.. whether in pitch darkness or brilliant sunlight, from any angles..

A solution to the fear of cracking one of these ritzy screens is to simply insure it. Knowing the screens cost a tonne, treat the phone like a newborn babe.. with utmost care.. It is your pocket..!

You won’t say, because thieves often steal the Toyota Corolla, you will not drive one, if that’s what you want.

Be extra careful, insure .. don’t carelessly hand your phone over to people..

For me, I can count how many times a phone has dropped from my hands on a single hand. And it is on record that I have NEVER cracked a phone screen in my mobile life.

So, a Samsung would be tailormade for careful people with steady hands..

For those with epileptic grip patterns or a tendency to sit down on phones, insure.. or.. give the Samsung models with expensive screens – a miss..
