Waiting for Android 15 For TECNO Phantom V Flip and V Fold Premium Smartphones

Yours truly is one of those waiting for Android 15 for one of the premium smartphones from TECNO and Infinix, so this one hits close home.

TECNO, Infinix, and itel have never been known for being timely with software updates for their products. As a matter of fact, most phones released by these brands never get any software updates at all. In recent years, though, we have seen some more effort put into supporting certain higher end models for one or two years. Those efforts are not enough and it should be a crime to keep premium smartphones waiting endlessly for promised updates.

When TECNO launched the Phantom premium range some years ago, it was with fanfare. But years down the road, these premium devices are not getting any special treatment compared to their budget and entry-level siblings.

This is June 2025, and the Phantom V Flip, V Fold, V Flip2, and V Fold2, are all yet to get updated to Android 15, a version that was released to the public in October 2024. As a matter of fact, if past experience is anything to go by, it does not look like these devices will get the update before October 2025. Why do I say this?

It took a whole year after the release of Android 14 for TECNO to rollout Android 14 to the Phantom V Flip. So, perhaps owners of these four premium smartphones should buckle up for a long wait. Right now, we envy owners of entry-level Samsung and Xiaomi phones like the Galaxy A06, Galaxy A16, and the Redmi 13C. These phones that cost between ₦100,000 and ₦300,000 have all been updated to Android 15.

The Phantom V Flip2 currently sells for ₦980,000, while the V Flip carries a ₦780,000 price tag. The Phantom V Fold and V Fold2 sell for between ₦1,200,000 and ₦1,700,000. How we go talk dis matter now?

TECNO’s sister brand, Infinix, is not doing any better either. The Infinix Zero Flip that was released last October with Android 14 (and which costs about the same as Phantom V Flip2) is also not getting Android 15 love yet. If you own one, tighten your seat belt. TECNO and Infinix have shared software development and so Infinix’s Zero Flip will likely not see an update rollout until the same time it rolls out to TECNO’s V Flip devices.

So, we wait. What else can we do? Nobody send us buy premium smartphone from phone brands wey nor dey quick do software update.
