This Uber driver makes over ₦500k monthly, but it will shock you what it costs him to make that much

A rider asked her Uber ride’s driver how much he makes monthly and she was shocked at his response. The Uber driver replied that he pockets over ₦500,000 monthly from driving in Lagos. That ₦500k is after taking care of his operational expenses – fueling the car, maintenance, etc.

This information was shared in a video on TikTok. In the comments section of the video, the rider shared some more information about the Uber driver’s schedule and it turns out that it is a killer schedule. Here is an exact reproduction of her comment:

Alright kids, let’s clear things up. The person I interviewed in the video said he makes 800k+ monthly and pockets 500k because he’s strategic about his movement He works from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. (start of business), takes a break, then resumes from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. (close of business).

On weekends ..Friday to Sunday ..he works throughout the night (Lagos nightlife movement) and doesn’t work as much during the day, except on Sundays (church movement) and Fridays (work movement).

Uber driver on the job

To put it mildly, that is a killer schedule and it isn’t just our opinion here at MobilityNG. We shared those details with a number of others and they expressed similar sentiments.

Unless your 9-to-5 job is really bad, perhaps you are better off sticking with that. This is a 5-to-9, and runs every single day of the week (Monday through Sunday, with some modifications on weekends). In this day and age, it is easy to be dismissive of 9-to-5 jobs, but the schedule presented here is incredibly more hectic than that of the average 9-to-5 role.

If you are out of employment, though, and need to go this hard, by all means, do it. Being an Uber driver and burning the oil from 5am to 9pm daily might just be exactly what you need to get by. We rise by doing what we have to do.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with driving an Uber, Bolt, InDrive, or any other similar service. Here at Mobility NG, we are firm believers in the dignity of all honest labour. This story is merely to highlight the intense schedule involved in making that figure, especially as the response of the creator of the video was to quickly become an Uber Driver.

If you were presented with the opportunity to drive an Uber and earn over 500k monthly with this schedule, will you sign up? Let us know in the comments section below.
