First Impressions

While it’s commendable to see three rear cameras on a mid-range phone, in reality, the 8 MP ultra-wide and 5 MP macro lenses aren’t very useful. Honestly, I’m not sure why OEMs still include 5 MP sensors in 2025. For practical photography, consider the Galaxy A36 to have one capable camera — the 50 MP main shooter.

Camera App Experience

If you’ve used a Samsung smartphone before, you’ll feel right at home here. The camera interface is familiar and user-friendly.

More: Includes Pro Mode, Night Mode, Food, Panorama, Macro, Super Slow-Mo, Slow Motion, Hyperlapse, and Single Take.

One notable absence I initially spotted was Document Scanning. But after diving into the settings, I confirmed that the camera can scan documents and text from the standard photo mode, thanks to features like Scene Optimizer.

Selfie Camera Performance

The 12 MP front camera takes good-quality selfies. I’ve captured several that I’m happy to show off. While it struggles a bit in low light and night scenarios, it’s decent enough for a mid-range phone.

One thing to note: it’s a little too responsive to colored lighting. Blue and red lights in the environment tend to be overemphasized, leading to exaggerated tints. You’ll see this clearly in my samples.

Rear Camera Performance

The 50 MP main camera is impressive in good lighting. It produces sharp, vibrant images that hold their own. However, in low light, the camera struggles with the same issue of color exaggeration, especially when artificial lights are present nearby. Blue lights appear overly intense and can distort the mood of your shot.

This issue isn’t common with other mid-range phones I’ve tested, so I’m hoping Samsung addresses it in a future software update.

Video Quality

Both front and rear cameras record solid video footage. The rear camera, in particular, delivers surprisingly good quality, supported by video stabilization.

The selfie video, while decent, is again affected by low-light conditions and exaggerated lighting tones — especially under blue or red lights.

The Samsung Galaxy A36 5G offers a reliable camera experience for a mid-range smartphone. While the secondary lenses are practically filler, the main and selfie cameras do their jobs well — especially in good lighting.

If Samsung can fix the lighting distortion via a software update, this could easily become one of the better camera phones in its price range.
