One day, a phone model will sell 1 million units in a month in Nigeria

We often read of news of phones like the Huawei P30, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, and Redmi K20, selling 1 million units or more in a month. Not once in the history of Nigeria has there been news of a phone selling as much as half a million units in a month. No matter how popular the phone, unit sales tend to be very poor here.

We suspect that some of the best sales we have seen have been in the range of 50,000 units a month. One source says that total quarterly smartphone shipments to Nigeria are in the range of 2.5 million units. Do the math.

It isn’t too much to look forward to that day that Nigeria will make headlines of a specific phone model clocking a million in sales in a month. One can only wonder what brand will pull that stunt off.

If past performance is anything to go by, the closest brand to doing it is TECNO Mobile or itel Mobile. With Xiaomi now aggressively pushing in the country, we might add that brand to the mix.

What do you think? Which phone brand do you think will pull off a million units in sales in a month first in Nigeria?
