Apple have expanded their App Store to cover an additional 33 countries, and this time, Nigeria is in. This means that iOS developers can now sell their apps in all the new territories. iOS device users can now also create App Sore accounts with local addresses.
Here is a list of the new additions:
Algeria, Angola, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belarus, Belize, Bermuda, Bolivia, British Virgin Islands, Brunei, Cayman Islands, Cyprus, Dominica, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Iceland, Montserrat, Nigeria, Oman, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, Suriname, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, Uzbekistan, Yemen.
Unfortunately, the U.S. App Store experience is far richer than what is obtainable for many other countries. Still, it’s a good thing that the store is now open to so many morepeople in the listed regions.

This is very commendable. I am very happy about this. Apple really want to spread it wings. It’s now remaining Windows market place. But apple really needs to do a lot more to get my attention. Starting with removal of their limitations.

This is an incredibly good news. Who would have thought this was possibly just a couple of months ago. First was Blackberry, then Android, now Apple! Although suprisingly Samsung Bada isn’t yet fully supported.
More details still has to come out. Like what kind of credit card that the will Apple accept. What matters most is that Apple now stands equal with RIM and Google in support for Nigeria and as such will now get equal coverage in mobilitynigeria. Kudos to the MN Team!

Thanks for the encouraging words. All we did was speak out for you all. We believed that Nigeria could not be left out of the apps ecosystems, and our stand has been justified.
WindowsPhone is on its way, and will show up after Nokia starts rolling, so nothing to worry about there.
Let’s pop the champagne and celebrate. Our developers have access! Our users have access! Now, let’s make the best of it!!!

Belushi, The Nigerian Apple store only has appstore, and podcast. So it really feels “naked”. Concerning the quality and number of apps; what I can say is that it is comparable to the UK Apple store. I’ve not been a fan of the US version so I can’t compare with that. The app selection is fair. AT least 95% of the UK store.
All the major apps i searched for to confirm the number of apps were available. I searched for Medical apps and got 100% results. I then searched for apps like twitter, facebook, epicurious, dropbox, medscape, goodreader; and saw all of them in the Nigerian version of the APple app store. I then took it further by buying a PAID app just to be sure. I bought “Goodreader for iPad” for $4.99 and the transaction was completed. So everything Yomi said above was personally confirmed by me.
However, the app store still feels empty. There is no MUSIC or VIDEO store. SO you cannot buy Music, rent or buy Video or TV shows. Really disheartening and sad. But one cannot really complain. This is a first time. ANd we hope that with time, Apple would allow us have a complete store. A store which is inclusive of iBooks (Ebooks), Music store, Video store, TV shows, and Mac app store. That is the only way we could have a full itunes store experience! Until then I will keep getting Gift cards in Pounds so that I’ll continue having a full store experience. Meanwhile, my Nigerian account will just serve as back-up for now; restricted to buying just apps!

The appstore for Nigeria is getting a little less “naked” and beginning to turn into another expense… lol. U really don’t know how much your spending when you see “small” amounts like $9.99, 14.99 etc.. You forget its converted to Naira
