DStvMobile now available on Glo

Posted on 12 December 2010 by Information Desk

Thanks to a heads-up from a regular here on the forums, we are able to announce that subscribers of Glo can now watch DStv live on their mobile phones as the company rolls out the DStvMOBILE service. The service is available to subscribers with DVB-H enabled handsets.

Glo offers channels such as Africa Magic, Magic World, Africa Magic Yoruba, Africa Magic Hausa, Channel O, Sound city, Cartoon Network, TBN, Super Sport 7, Super Sport 9, Super Sport Blitz and NTA Plus bundled on the nokia 5330, similar to the MTN offer.

According to a news report from Marketing World magazine, “DStvMOBILE from Glo comes with Nokia 5330, one month free High Speed Internet bundle and free DStvMOBILE subscription until 31 March, 2011.”

The service is available, to start with, in 10 Nigerian cities including Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Asaba, Onitsha, Enugu, Aba, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Kaduna.

Before now, MTN was the only ndetwork offering this service. This brings to two (2) the number of mobile operators offering DStvMobile on their networks.

I aint seeing CNN on that list, that is a channel i sure want on the go.
Would be interested in knowing the cost of the phone.
And am anxiously waiting for that handfree that will give Nokia N8 and other Symbian 3 devices DVB-H, ie mobile TV, am sure it will be hooked up with DSTV.

‘And am anxiously waiting for that handfree that will give Nokia N8 and other Symbian 3 devices DVB-H’

It will be interesting to see if a handset like the Nokia c6 wil be able to use this new headset.

    C6 / C7 has U-OTG, bit run Symbian^1 (not Symbian ^3).

I will want to guess that the c6/c7 will probably work with the headset.

I expect the headset will be connected to the U-OTG port. It is probably the Nokia dvb-h receiver, less the bluetooth chip plus a microphone, plus tiny speakers…

A good selling point for handset manufacturers would be to give all handsets with tv-out functionality dvb-h. it makes sense. Also, all handsets with dvb-h function should also have tv-out (i would buy a 5330 in a flash if it had tv-out)..

DTH satellite receiver manufacturers may eventually see their market share eroded when dvb-h broadcast becomes ubiquitous and catches fire…

Startimes decoder is portable. But a dvb-h tv-out enabled handset is even ultra portable -

Such a handset makes having one decoder each for the office and home superfluous – in a lot of situations…

    EyeBeeKay,

Actually, C7 and C6 (C6-01) both run the new Symbian OS, not Symbian^1.

Was just confirming the os run by Nokia c 6/c7. I examined http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_c6-3229.php

is Symbian OS v9.4, Series 60 rel. 5 (as stated therein) not the same as Symbian^1? The same run by Nokia 5800?

    What Am i missing?

    EyeBeeKay,

You are mixing up the C6 with the C6-01. Chalk it up to Nokia’s crazy naming scheme

Has anyone actually tried watching dvb-h television on d N8, C7, or C6-01? The web is suprisingly scarce of this information. All i see, when i google “dvb-h and symbian”, is nokia’s announcement of the dvb/bluetooth headset for Symbian^3 phones.

I dont think the Nokia Mobile TV Headset DVB-H is available yet, though the initial infor was that it will be available in Q4 2010.

The one I know that is available is the Nokia Mobile TV Receiver SU-33W and I am sure it will work with N8 and co.

But I also have not seen anybody talk about it.

is the dvb-h headset for symbian^3 in naija now? Does it just suffice to get it and the channels flow on the phone, or do we need an additional application for that?

It’s not available yet. I use the SU-33W tv receiver to watch dstv via mtn on my 5320XpressMusic, but so far have been unable to get the app to work on the N8.
