Apparently, a significant number of regulars on MobilityNigeria.com depend on MTN’s internet service, as most of them have been absent too since the MTN blackout. It is an unfortunate fact that once in a while in the IT world, stuff happens – software gets a glitch, systems crash, bugs throw networks in disarray, et al.
Whatever it is that is behind this blackout needs to be dealt with. As at the time of publishing this article, the service is yet to be back. In addition, there has been no statement from MTN about the issue. Our contacts in there only say that customers had started calling in to complain on Monday. Apparently, the problem started as a limited fault then, before progressing further yesterday.
One thing is for sure, MTN needs to put their acts together in terms of quality of service. Actually, all our telecoms operators need to improve on their quality of service. It is just that for a very long time, MTN has needed the makeover more than any other.
Does anyone have more information on what is going on with MTN internet at this time?

I noticed the absence of their data services yesternite.
Imagine my frustration after waiting till 12am and the network was still yet to return.
First thing i checked when i woke up was the gprs signal. Happily it was back at 5:01am.
I expect mtn to issue an apology/explanation if they really have their customer’s interest at heart.
@Alireta: How reliable is glo’s 3g service at night?

MTN internet still comatose here.
@Michael: Glo’s speed last night was okay. There was no point at which it was unusable like MTN often is between 9pm and 1am.

Seems the data outage is not nationwide. No problem this side of the country. I am posting this using opera 10beta on my 5800 with mtn.

timmy, the system uses avatars. You can get one, for example, by creating a WordPress.com account and uploading a picture of your choice there. Then make sure that you use the same email address for your MobilityNigeria profile.
The profile picture that you uploaded there will reflect here in all your comments thereafter.

MTN gave a 24 hour service extension to all affected customers [I'm a BlackBerry BIS user] which was quite nice of them. Network Access smallprint doesn’t guarantee 100% up-time so they’re/ were covered. They should device a way to inform their customers about the health/ status of the network or add it to breaking news service on the free 180 customer service number service. They are a great company.

@alireta Ok, I’ve had a quick look at the thread and sent some quick MTN BIS related responses.
I’m an avid mobile user and I would like to contribute articles to this site now and then. How do I go about doing that? Thanks ahead.
