Think you’ve heard enough of new mobile operating systems? Here’s more.
Today, Nokia and Intel announced the merger of Maemo and Moblin to create MeeGo, a Linux-based software platform designed to work across a range of hardware architectures and devices including mobile computers, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems.
The first release of MeeGo is expected in the second quarter of 2010 and the first MeeGo-based devices are expected to be launched later this year.
MeeGo is an open software platform which will be hosted by the Linux Foundation and use the best practices of open source development. It’s expected that MeeGo will be adopted by a range of device manufacturers, network operators, semiconductor companies, software vendors and developers.
MeeGo is a trademark of The Linux Foundation Corporation.
So, the list of mobile OSes has changed. We now have: Symbian, Windowsphone, Blackberry, iPhone, WebOS, Android, Bada, and MeeGo. Let the show continue.

Well, also at the mobile world congress(MWC) currently taking place in spain , Sonyericsson has announced the launch of its new platform called ‘CREATIONS’ which will enable the user to manipulate his media on his device as well as online.
Nokia again annouced that the symbian ^3 is being fully open sourced and fine tuned to include multitouch ability and RAM management.The version shall be implemented on the devices to be release in the 2nd quarter 2010 while symbian ^4 shall come early next year.

Well, we’d have to wait and see what this portends for nokia fanboys i was really looking forward to maemo6, but i believe nokia did this according to the best business practises. Watch the demo video of Samsung’s Bada and i have to say i’m not really impressed by it. But Samsung can really get enough traction for it’s OS by pushing it to its midrange phones.

With the continuing proliferation of OSes, it appears the days of thirdparty mobile app developers are getting numbered. How many OS variants can there people write for?
This development may/may not be a good thing. It will eventually make ‘cloud computing’ the only feasible solution.
