Samsung is set to announce the first device running Bada OS at Mobile Web Congress 2010. At first, all we had was news of the phone being displayed on a billboard at Samsung’s stand at the Barcelona event.
But now, courtesy of DailyMobile, we have leaked pictures and specifications of the device. According to dailyMobile, specifications include:
- 3.3-inch AMOLED screen
- 5 megapixel autofocus camera with flash
- 720p video recording
- 2gb internal memory
- Microsd slot
- HSDPA
- WIFI b/g/n
- 1ghz processor
- Bada OS
- Touchwiz 3.0
- 3.5 mm jack
- 1500mAh baterry
- Aluminum body
- Tempered glass
- Divx player
- 10.9mm thick!

Sounds and looks exciting, especially if the Wave comes as an improvement on a device like the Samsung Jet, which we have reviewed (first impressions, flashback to i900, email and Exchange ActiveSync, pictorial review, gripes and video recording) in details on this site.

Samsung says that Bada is an open source mobile OS that is based on Linux. In addition, we gather that mobile carriers will have the option of customizing the OS to suit their own requirements.

Am excited about the potential in samsung’s Bada Os. Because of its promise to bring smartphones to the masses. I hope samsung can push Bada as an update to its feature phones like the jet/corby/star & Tocco. that would increase their smartphone market share and in no time make the platform a major player in the battle of the Oses.

We are convinced that this is the sort of strategy that Samsung has in mind. While we are not sure that existing devices can be updated with Bada, Samsung will implement it on their mid to high tier of touchscreen products from now on.
We must not forget too that Samsung will gradually drop Symbian, Android and Windowsphone and simply also convert whatever margin that those platforms represent in their portfolio to Bada. It is a winning formula as it is, and well thought out.
Now, add to that the fact that Samsung is the number two (2) phone manufacturer globally, and you can expect that Bada OS will go from 0% smartphone marketshare to something significant in a short period of time.

I don’t really share the enthusiasm over there new OSes spring up day by day. Definitely Samsung would sell a ton of Bada phones as long as it uses it on its mid tier devices. The OS market is definitely saturated with Symbian, Blackberry OS, Mac OS, Android, Windows Mobile, Maemo, Moblin and Bada. This is just too much.
