Is Motorola Droid indeed a Milestone?

Posted on 17 November 2009 by Mister Mobility

It has been quite a while since Motorola released an impressive mobile device last. For a company that produced the stunning A008 “Accompli” as far back as 2002, Motorola seems to have been falling deeper and deeper into mediocrity for a while.a008

But the Droid is looking to change that. It is the first Motorola product in years that has impressed me. I am difficult to impress.

The Droid is an Android-based device (the first to run Android 2.0), sports a full QWERTY keyboard, HSDPA/HSUPA, an ARM Cortex A8 550 MHz processor, and has a 5 megapixel shooter on board.

This U.S. version of this device is known as the Droid, while the Europe version goes by the name Milestone. Hopefully, the Droid will indeed be a Milestone in the fortunes of Motorola and help the struggling giant get back on its feet. At least in the smartphone business.

Do not forget to give us a heads-up if you run into this beast in the market here in Nigeria.

Motorola Droid is surely a milestone for motorola company judging by its impact on the market share in its first few weeks of release. It is not easy for any phone to heat the mark this days considering how tensed up the mobile world has become.

But we still can not say how long the Motorola Droid can hold on to its fame with the pre-releases of Sonyericsson xperia x10 which is also running on android platform and the nokia N900 making headlines.

However again, lets hope motorola has the finance to mass produce the Droid so that it can circulates globally at reasonable price because PALM also had this same opportunity but finance and market strategy could not allow its palm pre to flourish even though it has the propensity to kill the iphone with its multitasking ability and powerful user interface.

Just checked out the dimensions and was quite impressed with the 13.7mm thickness. Boy, this is one slim qwerty device only beaten by another droid device, LG GW620.

And a display of 480 x 854 pixels on a 3.7” screen will make my day!!!!

Only drawback is the current price tag of $800…ouch!
