Zain Joli: Bad News For Internet Bundle Subscribers

Posted on 10 August 2009 by Mister Mobility

Zain Nigeria has been making a lot of noise about its new “Joli” packages in the last few days. Looking at the Joli tariffs, it is clear that voice subscribers get a better deal by migrating from the old packages to the new.

zainHowever, if you are currently subscribed to an internet bundle plan, you may want to stay away from those Joli migration codes for now. Migrating to Joli de-activates/cancels any existing internet bundle plans you may be subscribed to. Without notice. Yes; whatever you paid for the bundle package is gone. But that’s not all.

Because the bundle is now cancelled, if you have any available airtime, your line keeps connecting, eating up your airtime without your being aware of it.

Lastly, internet bundles cannot be activated on the Jolli platform. Joli subscribers can only enjoy pay-as-you-go internet at 15 kobo per kb. Well, at least till Zain sort out how to get it done.

Bad. Very bad.

A note of caution if you do choose to migrate to the Joli package: While it may be tempting to switch in order to enjoy lower call rates, also note that there is currently no way to switch back, if you are not satisfied. The migration is currently on a no-return basis.

For now that is true. I was told by Zain guys that the problem will be resolved in a few days. Although it is difficult to enjoy both worlds right now, Zain voice tariff is the best in the GSM market. If the company can take this into the data arena it will be good.

The easy way out of the internet problem for now is to get a different SIM card for your datacard and wait till the problem is resolved.

Thanks Yomi for keeping everyone informed

I completely disagree. In my opinion, the easy way out of the internet problem for now is to simply stay away from the Zain Joli package until Zain put their acts together.

Good observation. I have migrated to the joli package though, i have not subscribed for any internet bundle. I’ll just stick wit pay-as-you-go till they sort things out.

That’s not all, by the time you migrate to the ‘Joli@ package, there’re no more ‘free’ zain-zain sms, now it is pay as you send.

7051N, I think you were provisioned for the apn wap.ng.zain.com which uses a proxy rather than internet.ng.zain.com. You can call customer care to request for this and get the settings from dmc.ng.zain.com

It does appear that Zain has sorted out this problem. I received the following SMS yesterday:

‘Your line has been activated with the internet service. If you are using a data card visit any Zain shop for assistance on setting up your system.’

It didn’t occur to me to check my usage balance then, but I noticed that though I used the internet connection extensively, my regular airtime remained untouched. Apparently, I got my unused bundle data back.

    Kudos, Zain.

Yes, its true they ‘re now settled. Besides that I checked my data bundle balance, its amazing to meet 105 instead of 100. Is it a mistake or a bonus. Whichever it is, Zain has come on board.

    Ibrahim Ahmed,

I am wondering whether or not you saw the name of this site. This is Mobility Nigeria, not Zain Nigeria. Please direct your complaints to Zain.

We did not advertise Zain Joli. We do not run a mobile network. We are not Zain Nigeria. We cannot switch you to or away from Zain Joli or any other network package for that matter.

Please check again: this is Mobility Nigeria; not Zain Nigeria.

    Thanks.
